Cabinets

A cabinet is a feature placed in the OpenComms data model that can be used to house ISP rack mounted equipment and OpenComms XConn devices for terminating a circuit (fiber or copper) or passing through the cabinet feature. Fiber sheaths can be terminated at the Cabinet feature and the OpenComms Connections > Manual command can also be used at a cabinet to define connectivity through that location. Open the Cabinets dialog by clicking on File > OpenComms Settings > OSP – Common > Cabinets to display the following setup dialog:

Editing a Cabinet Model

  1. Select a Cabinet from the Device List. Highlighting the Cabinet loads the information into the dialog box.
  2. Edit the Cabinet Attributes input fields.
  3. Click Update to save changes into the spec file.

Creating a Cabinet Model

  1. Key in the Model name.
  2. Key in the Manufacturer name and Cost.
  3. If this device will be used in Fiber to the Premise design using the FTTP utility, check the FTTP LCC button for this to be used as an LCC device.
  4. To activate the Select Cell window, type in the cell Name and press enter or click on Select and select the appropriate cell from the Select Cell dialog box list.

  5. Select the ‘Power’ button to implement the Cabinet Model as a ‘Coax’ Powering Device, and enter Current and Voltage levels to be used when calculating power from the Coax Module.

    After selecting 'Power' and checking the Power Device box, the following dialog will display:

  6. Click Add to save the Cabinet into the spec file.

Deleting a Cabinet Model

  1. Highlight the name in the Device List.
  2. Click Delete to remove the Cabinet from the spec file.
    Note: Cabinet models already used in the network cannot be deleted. In order to delete a Cabinet model from the Cabinet Attributes dialog, all of that particular Cabinet model must be replaced in the existing network before it can be removed.
